Emma flipped out about her Nemo pillowcase. She even loved her plain set of sheets (because it means she’s getting a bunkbed!)

For the record, Katya picked out pirate sheets for herself. Sure, I can dig that over Disney.

Nightmare in a Children’s Home in the 1960s

Our Family in the various children’s homes.
Each branch had its own style of decoration.
Two branches from the mid 1960’s are shown here.

The branch at Brackley is decorated in attractive colours, the beds are made up with attractively coloured covers and toys are allowed in the rooms.
The other bedroom is at the St Leonards branch, and is decorated in the famous two tone type colour scheme that the NCH often used around the entire building, often in gloss paint on the lower section, it stopped finger marks on the walls, the houses were often decorated in different colours around the various rooms, but most of the shades were blue, grey or green with a cream on the upper part.
The bedroom has is standard rather basic style of bed and bedclothes, and there is a lack of toys in the room, an object like a toy helmet would not normally be allowed to remain in the bedroom. Many of the flats in the Harpenden branch were also decorated in a similar fashion.

With Sister tucking you in bed, if she returned to your room, it was easy to tell if you had been out of bed.
The film features a boy at a children’s home in bed having a nightmare, he is dreaming that the other children and a doctor want to kill him, by rubbing his magic helmet, he can make all the nasty things go away.
He is running around a castle in his pyjamas, a mad doctor seems to want to do interesting things to him.
At Harpenden NCH. we had our own selection of "Doctors" that use to visit us once every three months to do interesting things to us.

VIDEO: The girl on her first day is now shown her bed, as with all beds in the children’s home it has been well used and sags in the middle. The older boys and girls are now shown doing their homework while the younger ones are playing with their toys which have been donated to the Home. Two boys are shown playing with a board game, they are wearing sandals indoors.

The older girl appears to be Beryl Lee.
